Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. In Washington she was named general correspondent for NBC News two year later. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell is a regular as a guest on TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She served as a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for journalism excellence, including her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell covered the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell reported on a variety of notable stories, including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell traveled together with President Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions to attend summits and discuss issues including and the Iran Contra scandal.
