Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, better known as Ari Lennox, is an American singer and musician born in Washington, D.C., who was the first woman to be signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records record label. Her first single was released for the label on Oct. 21 2016 with the title Pho. It was then that she began gaining notoriety. Shea Butter Baby released her first studio album on 7 May 2019. Ari Lennox began uploading her music online in the year 2012 when she launched her first mixtape Five Finger Discount, and her debut EP Ariography in 2013. The singer continued uploading her music online in 2014, including the independently-released single Bound. She was featured in Omen's Elephant Eyes, from Sweat It Out, on the 21st of July, 2015. J. Cole had her submit her tracks in the direction of his Dreamville Team in the following year as he wanted Rihanna to work alongside her on some of the songs. Her announcement to sign with Dreamville Records was made on December 8th. She made an appearance on the collaborative album Revenge of the Dreamers II in the track Backseat featuring Cozz. In October of 2016, she released her first EP, Pho. Ari Lennox appeared in J. Cole's Change song and opened her own tour, the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017. The year 2018 saw Ari Lennox guested on two tracks with EarthGang and EarthGang, on Nothing but the Best, and Bas on Icarus. Ari Lennox debuted her first single from Shea Butter Baby, Whipped Cream on July 16, 2018. The music video then released in September. Then, in November, she released her singles 40 Shades of Choke & Grampa. On November 13, she released two additional singles titled The No One as well as Pdigree. They then teamed up as a guest on the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on a track titled Shea Butter Baby on November 16th. She released the single on the 26th of February 2019 for her debut album of the same title. In February of 2019, the music video for this track debuted. It has had more than three million YouTube views in just one week. In December of 2018, she was part of the From East Atlanta With Love Tour, which featured 6LACK.
